Northmoor Community Centre

A new Community centre for Northmoor Village, incorporating an innovative new solar heating system, the first of this type in the UK.

The aim was to reduce energy consumption using natural, low carbon materials the result was a village hall with low energy use, low CO2 emissions, and low running costs.

  • The building collects and stores solar energy for space heating.
  • Local materials such as lime render and local stone were used.
  • Passive solar design was incorporated  using natural shade and landscape.
  • Energy efficient lighting systems were installed.
  • High levels of insulation.
  • Low energy use, CO2 emissions, and running costs.

 

The project also attracted funding from: The Millennium Commission, Action with Communities in Rural England, The Rural Development Commission, Shell Better Britain Campaign, both Local and District Councils.
